Originally from Kansas,Leigh Fine received his bachelor’s from Kansas State University,where he received the Pat J. Bosco Outstanding Graduate Award for his work as president of the Queer-Straight Alliance. He then went on to pursue a master’s in College Counseling from the University of Delaware,where he was honored as the Stuart J. Sharkey Outstanding Graduate in Student Affairs. He has worked in student life on many campuses across the United States,including Kansas State University,the University of Delaware,the University of Notre Dame,and the University of California - San Diego. He is currently a doctoral candidate in sociology at The Ohio State University,where he was a Graduate School Fellow in his first year and winner of the Graduate Associate Teaching Award,the University’s highest honor for excellence in undergraduate teaching. Additionally,Leigh is currently Visiting Instructor of Sociology at Kenyon College. His research interests include sexuality / sexual identity,gender,and education. His work has been published in Journal of Homosexuality,Social Indicators Research,and the anthology Women at Work:Tupperware,Passion Parties,and Beyond. He also has a forthcoming article in Journal of College Student Development. Leigh’s dissertation focuses on postsecondary educational inequalities as a function of sexual identity. His favorite courses to teach are Introduction to Sociology,Sociology of Education, and Sociology of Sexuality. In his home department at Ohio State,Leigh serves as coordinator of the Sexualities Working Group and was a chair on the Sociology Graduate Student Association. He has presented for the Chicago Area Ethnography Conference and the National Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Conference. Leigh currently resides in Columbus,Ohio,with his partner,Matt,and their “son,”a white cat named Chico.
